I thought this topic wouldn't interest me - but found it a page-turner. Well-written and fascinating...I find myself telling people about it and thinking about it a lot. Genova is an author I am going to start paying attention to - very interesting.
This must have been one of his earliest writing efforts. The book felt pretty dry, even for a 'fake' historical document' containing such active, violent subject matter. It was a short book, and only took me several hours to read. I'd much rather read Beowulf. 278 p.
I MUST ADMIT THAT THE THOUGHT OF READING A BOOK THAT SMACKS OF THE FILM GROUNDHOG DAY, A FILM I DESPISE, WAS NOT ALL THAT APPEALING TO ME. I LIKED THE "MYSTERY" APPROACH OF THIS NOVEL BETTER THAN THE "GET-IT-RIGHT-BEFORE-YOU-MOVE-ON" IDEA USED IN THE FILM. HOWEVER, THE REDUNDANCIES IN THE "STARTING-OVER-EVERYDAY" DIALOGUE WAS TEDIOUS. THAT WAS PROBABLY THE POINT. THE TWISTS WERE PREDICTABLE FROM THE START, AND I FOUND MYSELF WAITING FOR THE WRITER TO STATE WHAT I ALREADY KNEW. IT TOOK HER LONG ENOUGH! A SOLID 2.
