I love this book. I love all Jane Austen (except for Mansfield Park) but this one hit me where I live. Everyone who lives into their thirties has time to regret their actions and look back at their past selves and wish they'd done this or that differently. This book delves into that tension--Anne Elliott truly comes to know herself, which is a great journey to go on with her. Plus, it's romantic!
I found this book extremely frustrating, which reflects what the protagonist feels. He's accused of producing kiddie porn because he snaps a picture of his young daughter in the bathtub mooning him. He doesn't even think there's film left and has no clue what's going on when he's arrested. What follows is a based on true events story of a guy caught up in a hyper-vigilant state of affairs. The daughter's clearly not being abused, the father's obviously not producing child pronography, and yet he's stuck in the system that decimates his life. We certainly want laws to protect children from predators but this novel illustrates how a little common sense could go a long way in the course of interpreting laws.
An interesting read about an amazing actress. Judi Dench's (acting) life as told through her roles. The only bad thing about this book was it made me wish I could have seen her performing on stage in many of the plays discussed!
For a light, fun read, this was pretty good. It's following the pairs of contestants on a reality TV game show, one that involves an international scavenger hunt, players' dark secrets, changing alliances, and all that good stuff. It's good for a rot-your-brain book on a rainy weekend, but not one I'd actively seek out otherwise.
I found this book on my shelf earlier this week when i came home from school early because i wasn't feeling well. the 384 pages it contains, i read right through them in the 2 days that followed. i don't think i've ever walked away from a nicholas sparks novel without crying & this was no exception. however the plot was much more than just a love story this time. it was a love story entangled with a dangerous stalkers desire. so suspenseful & so enduring at the same time. my favorite part was the author's note at the end. i loved being able to read a bit about the writing process of the book & where nicholas' head was at while he was writing it!
